An elected fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and of the Academia Europe, he has held visiting posts at Chicago, Harvard, Oslo and Dundee He is the author of nine books including The Cinema Effect (MIT 2004), EcoMedia (Rodopi, 2005), The Practice of Light (MIT 2014), Finite Media: Environmental Implications of Digital Technologies (Duke, 2017) and Anecdotal Evidence: Ecocritique from Hollywood to the Mass Image (OUP, 2020). He has co-edited nine anthologies including The Ecocinema Reader: Theory and Practice, Routledge/American Film Institute, 2012 and Ecomedia: Key Issues. London: Earthscan/Routledge, 2015. He is series editor for Leonardo Books at MIT Press and serves on the board of Goldsmiths Press, and the Green Media book series (Amsterdam University Press) as well as the advisory or editorial boards of a number of journals including Screen, Cultural Politics, Digital Culture and Society, The Journal of Environmental Media, and Media + Environment.
