David Etxeberria, born in San Sebastian, Spain in 1977, lives and works in Portugal. Graduated in Visual Arts from the School of Arts and Design (ESAD) Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, in 2004. Master’s degree in Contemporary Culture and New Technologies at the New University of Lisbon, Portugal in 2008. PhD in History, Philosophy & Heritage of Science and Philosophy with the thesis “Contemporary Art In a Test Tube: A Reflection on Ethical Responsibility of Bioart”, in 2014.
Works as a visual artist and represented in several private and public collections especially in video art, photography and installations. On this activity he has made more than 100 group shows in Portugal, Europe and USA.
Lecturer in visual arts from 2008-14, and especially focus on the crossing fields of art, technology and science. He has published widely on subjects such as Bioart and social responsibility; Art, technoscience and ethics; Visual arts and new technologies.
Particularly fascinated by the coupling of art and science and the new possibilities to bring ordinary people to the process of science and art making in order to play and discover new ways of social participation. He believes that an open contribution of art and science can create a pathway to defy the power structures and the process of decision-making in the creation and managing of life in the future.
