Ze Gao
Artist & Researcherat Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)Dr. Ze GAO is an Artist, Theorist, and Curator based in Hong Kong and New York. Now he is an Artist & Researcher at the Extended Reality and Immersive Media (XRIM) Lab at HKUST and Tongji University - MIT Shanghai City Science Lab. He studied Multidisciplinary Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art and held an MFA with honors in the School of Visual Arts in New York. With a background in image science and art, his research is across different practices and interests, including Artificial Intelligence Arts, Human-Computer Interaction, Museum Study, Game Design, and Extended Reality. His research has been published at the ACM MM, ACM WWW, ACM SIGGRAPH, ACM DIS, ACM ICMI, UbiComp, CHI-PLAY, IEEE ARTeFACTo, ISEA, EVA London, etc., mainly in Emerging Technologies and New Media Art. Mr. Gao’s photography, augmented reality, motion capture performance, and interactive installation have been showcased internationally in China, Japan, Singapore, North America, and Europe. A select sampling of his exhibitions includes the ACM Multimedia art exhibition 2022 in Lisbon, ISEA 2022 in Barcelona, ARTeFACTo 2022 in Macau, Chinese CHI 2022 Art Gallery (Diamond Award) in Guangzhou, NTU Global Digital Art Prize finalist exhibition in Singapore, 2019 International Art Exhibition in Paris at Vanities Gallery. He also has been invited as a visiting scholar to the Department of Philosophy, Sun Yat-sen University(Guangzhou, China,2020), Confucius Institute, University of Bonn(Bonn, Germany, 2019), and School of Art and Design, Yunnan University(Kunming, China, 2019), residence artists at Nanchuan Lixiang Lake, Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts(Chongqing, China, 2020), Glasgow School of Art(Glasgow, Scotland, UK, 2014).
