Hugo Solis Garcia
Professorat UAM (Mexico)Hugo Solís García (1976, México City) is a Sound Artist. His main field is the creation of interactive sonic works. His work has been shown or performed on national and international venues over the last years. He has received grants, prizes, and awards from FONCA, UNAM, TELMEX, MIT, UW, IMEB, 4Culture, Seattle City, among others. Currently, he is a full-time professor at Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana in the field of Digital Art and Interactive Technologies. He was a member of the “Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte” of México.
He holds a Ph.D. in Digital Arts and Experimental Media from DXARTS, University of Washington. While a student at UW he participated in several DXARTS concerts and collaborate as composer and pianist with the Dance department on the 3D production. His Ph.D. dissertation is an art piece that uses oceanographic data and seafloor hydrothermal sound recordings as sound sources.
He holds a DEA of Computer Sciences and Digital Communication from the Pompeu Fabra University. During this time, he founded the ensAmble Crumble. He holds a Master’s degree in Media Arts and Sciences from the MIT Media Laboratory where he developed a system able to analyze graphic "gestures" and transform them -within real time- into traditional music notation. This system is a tool for improvising musicians and allows the coordination of collective improvisation in chamber conformation.
He holds a Bachelor in Piano Performance from the Escuela Nacional de Música of the UNAM in Mexico City. During this time, he collaborated in interdisciplinary projects involving dancers, painters, film and radio makers. During this period, he founded the Electroacoustic Music Improvisation Trio Nicrom with which he carried out a concert season in Mexico City. He also studied computer music at NYU participating with the New Music & Dance Ensemble of the New York University.
