Derek Holzer (USA 1972) is an audiovisual artist, performer, researcher, lecturer, teacher and electronic instrument designer based in Stockholm. He is currently a PhD candidate at KTH Royal Institute of Technology’s Media Technology and Interaction Design department, where his research covers areas of historically informed audiovisual synthesis, media archaeology, design fictions and speculative technologies. He has performed, taught workshops and created installations since 2002 across Europe, North and South America and New Zealand. As Macumbista Instruments, he has provided custom experimental sound synthesis devices to musicians, sound designers and theater directors since 2010.
