Both an NEA Jazz Fellow and Senior Fulbright Scholar, Modirzadeh focuses primarily on highly original, creative, and cross-cultural musical concepts. His Grammy-nominated work on saxophones can be heard on Pi Recordings, while his published research can be found in such journals as Black Music Research, Leonardo, and Critical Studies in Improvisation. Currently Professor of Music at SF State, Modirzadeh’s other faculty positions have included BANFF (Canada), and the California Jazz Conservatory, in Berkeley.
