Erin Lewis is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Textile Interaction Design at The Swedish School of Textiles, University of Borås, Sweden. Her research explores methods and tools for designing with intangible materials in design and specifically engages electromagnetic textile design practice through techniques of industrial weaving and knitting. Erin teaches and lectures on topics of AI and design, design theory and methods, and smart textiles. Previously, Erin was an instructor at OCAD University Toronto, Canada, where she taught wearable technology within the Faculty of Design, and was a researcher within OCAD University’s wearable technology design lab, the Social Body Lab (2010-2015). From 2011-2015 she was the Coordinator of the Toronto Wearables Meetup. In 2015 Erin held the position of Education Manager at InterAccess, Canada's preeminent new media art gallery.
Her academic work can be found in Artifact: Journal of Design Practice; Disena (The Design Journal of Chile); NORDES (Nordic Design Research); Surface Design Association Journal; TEI (Tangible Embedded Interactions), among others.
Her artistic work has been shown internationally in Canada and the USA, Chile, the UK, Spain, Germany, Lithuania, Sweden, and Pakistan, and includes notable exhibitions at Museum of Modern Art (MOMA - New York), the Textile Museum (Sweden), the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas; Eyebeam (NYC); World Maker Faire (New York); Nuit Blanche Toronto; and the Ontario Science Centre (Canada). Her artistic work has been further presented on Discovery Channel Canada; Discovery.com; Fibre Focus Magazine; Huffington Post; The Grid; and the Toronto Star, among others.
