SciArt Santa Fe presents Sara Morawetz, Zac Travis, Patrick Manning with Viola Arduini.

Sara Morawetz is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the processes that underpin scientific action. She approaches experimental investigation as a way of thinking and working, and aims to deconstruct the underlying processes of methodological labor – to explore the exhaustive, the obsessive, the poetic, and the absurd inherent within scientific activity. The Australian-born, New Mexico-based artist has collaborated with scientists from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Centre, NY, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (USA).

Zac Travis lives in Albuquerque, NM where he is attending the University of New Mexico as an MFA candidate, studying photography and expanding his focus on digital technologies, digital media, and visual culture of the internet. Travis’s recent works involve the combination of video installation, photography, algorithms, and other forms of digital content and media. Travis uses a copy-and-paste-like process that engages with the appropriation of open-source web-based content. While in constant collaboration with both technology and the internet, Travis is investigating the power dynamics and social influence of the internet while reflecting on and intervening in the systems that circulate said information.

Patrick Craig Manning is an Associate Professor of Photography at the University of New Mexico. Born in Seattle, WA, he received degrees in photography and archeology from the University of Washington and his MFA from the University of New Mexico before going on to teach as a professor at the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis. His photographic, digital, and video work invokes loss to explore the intersection of representation, language, and history and has been exhibited at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Eiteljorg Museum of Indian and Western Art, and galleries from coast to coast.

Viola Arduini (moderator) is an Italian artist, researcher, and educator who exploresthe relationship between humans, the ecosphere, and technology. She uses a variety of media, from photography to computer science, from biology to writing, to create paths that connect art to science, and the human to the more-than-human. Viola received a Bachelor of Arts from NABA New Academy of Fine Arts, Milano, (Italy),a Master of Arts in Documentary Photography from the University of South Wales,Newport (United Kingdom), and a Master of Fine Arts in Art & Ecology fromthe University of New Mexico in 2019.
