ABOUT

Prof. Galit Shohat-Opir of Bar Ilan University's Faculty of Life Sciences and dancer and choreographer Nitzan Lederman will discuss their collaborative work process dealing with the the formation of movement motivation. In the talk, we will learn about the research being conducted in Galit's laboratory, how it has affected Nitzan's work, and how the clinical practice has changed and evolved as a result of the shared dialogue. The work will be exhibited at the TRANSMEET science and art festival in October 2023, providing an opportunity to learn about a case and a work in the making. The collaboration is being organised and supported by the Petar Nano Museum of Art and Nano Sciences at the Nano Technology Institute at Bar Ilan University, as well as the Transmeet Art and Science Festival.

About the speakers

Galit Shohat -Opir is a professor at the Faculty of Life Sciences, the Gonda Center for Brain Research and the Nanotechnology Institute at Bar-Ilan University. She investigates how social experience affects sensory sensitivity, metabolism and lifespan, the value of positive rewards and how this information is encoded in neuronal circuits in the brain.

Nitzan Lederman is a dancer, dance teacher and independent creator who studies the connections between experience and cognition, movement and consciousness. Nitzan teaches contemporary dance based on the study of emotional anatomy and the principles of biomechanics. Nitzan is a master's student in dance sciences at the University of Bern in Switzerland, where she focuses on reducing burnout by using somatic practice in the world of professional dance.
