Liverpool LASER's April 'Leonardo Art Science Evening Rendezvous' talk titled "Leonardo's Laboratory" supported the Walker Art Gallery’s "Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing" exhibition, which was one of a series of 12 simultaneous exhibitions, each exhibiting 12 of da Vinci’s drawings in celebration of his achievements on the 500 year anniversary of his death.

Drawing served as Leonardo da Vinci’s laboratory. It allowed him to generate ideas and knowledge, often without the physical means, through meticulous observation and mark-making. The public were invited to join us for a conversation between Xanthe Brooke; Walker Art Gallery's in-house curator of ‘Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing’, Mark Roughley; a 3D medical artist, and Lol Baker; a digital maker who discussed Leonardo’s laboratory and considered what his art-science lab would have looked like in the 21st Century.

Leonardo's Laboratory was preceded by a daytime event titled "Leonardo's Pop-up Laboratory" operated by Fab Lab Liverpool and Liverpool LASER. Visitors were able to visit a pop-up laboratory to explore some of the technologies and methods that Leonardo da Vinci may have used if he was alive today, including 3D printing and 3D scanning, and digital haptic or virtual reality sculpting.

There was also an out of hours opportunity to access the exhibition prior to the LASER talk.
