From July 2023 to February 2024, LASER talks at Roy Ascott Studio in Shanghai, will be inviting artists, scientists, humanists and technologists together for informal gatherings to explore Roy’s 100 Terms and Definitions for the Post-biological Era coined in his ‘Technoetic Aesthetics’ written in 1997. For the first edition on July 14th 2023, hybrid, the invited speakers choices from the glossary include:

- Double Consciousness (Dr. Claudia Jacques) The state of being which gives access, at one and the same time, to two distinctly different fields of experience: psychic space and cyberspace, the material world and the virtual, in an artwork and outside of it.

- Telemadic (Dr. Mujin Bao) Where the ancients were nomadic, we are restlessly telemadic, our minds traversing the vast interspaces of the worldwide networks of technology and consciousness.

- Techno-qualia (Dr. Chen Yufei) The philosophy of the senses must recognize that the human sensorium is expanding to include entirely new sensations and perceptions .

- Mystemics (John Bardakos) The systems study of mystical consciousness, in architectural, iconic and ritualistic form.

- Bio-myths (Frank Cong) We are still bound up with the search for myths. The context now is biological and behavioral - zooming through the micro/macro levels. Get ready for the great biomyths, A-life legends.

From this we hope to produce a dialogued version of the glossary, updating the understanding of the terms from the perspective of researchers that have been influenced by Roy Ascott visionary thinking.
