Pamela Winfrey, Senior Artist for the Center for Public Exhibition,
joined the Exploratorium in 1979 and began working in arts
programming in 1986. Recent exhibitions curated by Winfrey include
Virtual Unreality (2007), Liminality (2007), Reconsidered Materials
(2006);and Art Life (2004), an exploration of artworks with human and
living attributes. To help the Bealle Center in Irvine, California
celebrate their fifth anniversary, she curated ěFiveî which featured
five interactive media artists from five different countries. In
2005, she served as a panelist at Ars Electronica (Linz, Austria) for
the interactive arts category, During this next year, she is the lead
curatorial consultant for Creative Capitalís emerging art forms.
Ms. Winfrey is also a playwright and performer. She was a founding
member of Mobius Operandi, an electro-acoustic sound sculpture
ensemble. During her tenure with them, they produced two CDís and
five large-scale performances that included a cornfield, large
swinging speakers, and clocks with human clockworks. Her play, The
Sounding, a drama based on the laying of the Atlantic cable, was read
in Science on Stage 2004 at the Magic Theater. Plays and performance
works by Winfrey have also been presented at numerous venues around
the country.Ý
She has received a Marin Arts Council Independent Artist award, a
Sloan grant for ěCelestial Bodiesî, a play about the first female
radio astronomer. She has received awards from both the Marin Arts
Council and NJNG Productions in New York for a new recording of a
still untitled musical that she is writing with her new partner,
Christie Winn.Ý
