Marc Battier has been composing electronic and computer music pieces since 1970. He is now professor at the University of Sorbonne in Paris. When at Ircam, worked with Pierre Boulez, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Joji Yuasa, Perre Henry, François Bayle, Steve Reich and many other invited composers. He is currently chair of OLATS scientific advisory committee. He is also co-founder of Electroacoustic Music Studies Network (2003-).

Battier is on the editorial board of Organised Sound and a member of the EARS consortium. He has a working relationship with the Paris Museum of Music where he designed the bulk of the twentieth century collection of musical instruments. He has written articles for most music publications, including Computer Music Journal, Organised Sound, Ars sonora, Leonardo Music Journal, Contemporary Music Review, Cahiers rercherche-Musique de l'Ircam. He has taught in the United States (University of California at San Diego) and in Quebec (Universite de Montreal). His new CD, Audioscans, was published by alma marghen/MAAT with a book of poems by Zeno Bianu. The CD is based on a musical transpositions of nine painting by surrealist painter Matta.
