CALL FOR PAPERS: Times of War and Conflict

Deadline:
24 July 2024 to 6 June 2025
Organized by:
Leonardo

The resurgence of major geopolitical conflict and the responses of creative practitioners makes this previous call unfortunately newly relevant. Cross-disciplinary responses to war provides valuable perspective, connection across divides, and agency in times when it is denied to so many in the course of organized violence. The first iteration of this call originated as an editorial published in 2000 in reaction to the war in Kosovo, and the responses it prompted developed into an ongoing special section. We are now renewing the call in the hopes of sustaining this creative impulse in the face of new technologies and old dynamics of power.

We welcome articles that touch on (but are limited to) these areas of cross-disciplinary inquiry:

  • Reasons for war and conflict: What insight can cross-disciplinary inquiry tell us about why we go to war.
  • Twenty-first Century Perspectives on War and Peace: Consider exploring the roots of conflict, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding from methodologically pluralist and interdisciplinary angles.
  • Consequences of war: How are civilians, soldiers, and society impacted by war and conflict. What are the economic and environmental effects of war?
  • Historical Perspective
  • Alternatives to war
