Position Description
Interactive Media Arts at NYU Shanghai invites applications from art practitioners working in emerging media who wish to develop their practice or create new works in an academic environment and expand their research by relocating to Shanghai, China. We are interested in critically-engaged practitioners in the vanguard of their field that can connect with our students in creative and innovative ways. Interactive Media Arts (IMA) is a rigorous undergraduate program that combines practice-based and scholarly work in order to explore the social and cultural possibilities of emerging media and media creation. Our department is engaged in creative scholarship with research in design, software development, immersive media, robotics, electronic music, physical computing, data visualization, digital fabrication, games, and tangible and digital media. Our seminars combine the theoretical study of the history, philosophy, and politics of emerging media. Over the course of this residency, we invite you to explore our NYU Shanghai community across multiple disciplines and develop your own practice.

The Artist in Residence is required to teach one course per semester and develop a research project with student involvement that is preferably cross-disciplinary. Candidates must have a terminal degree (MFA, MPS, or PhD) as well as a minimum of two years full-time teaching or equivalent professional experience. Evidence of a high level of creative production and accomplishment and/or a published work is expected.

Compensation
Commensurate with experience. Compensation and terms of employment are comparable to U.S. institutions and include faculty housing or subsidies. A stipend will be rewarded based on the proposed research project.
