The Public Engagement Specialist will support the Humanities Lab team and ASU Leonardo Director in launching a new and innovative ASU Presidential Strategic Initiative grant called Seize the Moment. Seize the Moment (STM) is designed to address today’s intersecting social and environmental crises--the coronavirus pandemic, social injustice, and environmental concerns--and create educational and public engagement programs intended to facilitate solutions.

This person will collaborate on business development activities designed to procure grant funding, forge new relationships with internal and external constituents and enhance student impact outcome-outreach opportunities. They will support public engagement; contribute to the initiative's marketing presence; organize events and activities dedicated to increasing relationships and opportunities for students.

This position is for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 academic year; possible continuation of the position depends on the availability of funds and program needs.

Essential Duties

  • Advance an array of STM business development activities through grant writing, soliciting philanthropic donors, supporting and developing Value Enterprise initiatives, creating connections with creative economy investors, influencers, and enablers including on- and off-campus units (e.g. Leonardo Liftoff, Luminosity Lab, Innovation Lab, University Design Institute, and Skysong).
  • Identify, research and pitch new funding sources from a variety of organizations (Eg. corporate, government, foundation, non-profit).
  • Maintain calendar/ log of resulting activities and records to reflect status and progress of proposals and outreach activities
  • Encourage faculty transdisciplinary scholarship and public engagement; working closely with students and Marketing Coordinator to promote student impact outcomes.
  • Work with Marketing Coordinator to pitch, write, conceptualize and produce public-facing communication initiatives such as virtual lecture series and new, multi-media and experimental publications.
  • Stay abreast of impact outcomes forming in 7-week online STM Labs, and work with the team to promote outcomes through Value Enterprise ideas and projects.
  • Coordinate periodic events including project advisory council meetings, pitch sessions and impact outcome fairs; venue procurement, facilities coordination, etc.
  • Work with fiscal specialist to adhere to budget guidelines related to these programs.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in field appropriate to area of assignment AND two years administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Six years of progressively responsible administrative/coordinator program experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Working Environment

  • Activities may be performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work. 
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.  
  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts. 
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
     

Department Statement

The School of International Letters & Cultures is the primary home for the study of international languages and cultures at ASU. The undergraduate program offers 28 undergraduate degrees and 12 graduate degrees and has approximately 600 majors and 70 graduate students. In addition, the School offers 15 summer study abroad programs.
