Maia Urstad
sound artistat Maur ProsjekterMaia Urstad is a visual artist, musician and performer working at the intersection of sound and visual art. Her work explores the history and methodology of communication technology; from Morse Code and other long range signals, to digital terrestrial networks and the use of fiber optics, often addressing different aspects of technological progress and change. Her work also tends to focus on flops, lost causes and developments that have vanished, leaving behind scant traces of their existence.
Maia was appointed by "Bonn hoeren" as City Sound artist of Bonn 2017, and is throughout 2018 exhibiting her work “Zeit-Ton-Passagen”; a 40 channel sound installation based on the material from the audio archive of broadcasting station Deutche Welle.
Her sound installations and performances have been presented at spaces such as: Fundacion Proa (AR), Radiorevolten (DE), Trafo Kunsthall Oslo (NO), High Zero Festival (US), Barents Spektakel (NO), Singuhr Sound Gallery (DE), Lydgalleriet in Bergen (NO), KODE-Bergen Art Museum (NO), Johannesburg Art Gallery (SA), Prefix ICA in Toronto (CA), and Electrohype at Malmö Konsthall (SE). Permanent installations at Kongsvinger Fortress and Herdla Museum (NO), amongst other.
