Siegfried Manietta – Short Biography
Siegfried Manietta was born in Germany in 1947 and spent his formative years in Northern NSW and South-east Queensland. He worked in commercial photography across a range of disciplines including retail, commercial / advertising photography, and colour laboratory before entering the photography teaching profession in 1978. 
Prior to retiring in 2012 Siegfried was a Senior Lecturer at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University Brisbane, Australia. From 1997 until 2004 he held the title of “Guest Professor of Photography” at the Central Academy of Fine Art Beijing, P.R. China where he is affectionately known as “Lao Fu”. In recognition of his dedication to building a photography department at the Academy, the Chinese Federal Government awarded Siegfried with a “Friendship Award” – their highest recognition for the work of visiting foreign experts. In 2010 he was nominated a fellow of the Queensland Academy of Arts and Sciences.
In addition to teaching photography Siegfried’s research interests include evaluating photographic systems performance, holography and documenting the Australian landscape. His photographic work has been collected and exhibited mainly in Australia and China.
