Sjoukje van der Meulen received her MA and PhD degrees from Columbia University's Department of Art History and the Graduate School of Architecture (GSAPP) (1998/2009). She taught at Columbia University, the University of Illinois at Chicago and the University of Oregon. She was also a lecturer at the Media Studies department of the University of Amsterdam, a participant in the international curatorial program of  De Appel Foundation, editor of Metropolis M and co-editor-in-chief of Stedelijk Studies. She is currently Assistant Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art at Utrecht University and Rudolf Arnheim Professor at the Humboldt University (winter 2020/2021). 

Research focuses: new media and digital culture, global art history (especially Chinese art), art in the European Union (since 1992).
