Vicky Batres Prieto is a Mexican artist-teacher-educational researcher that has PhD degree in Arts and Design. Her most recent arts-based research is focused on developing the academic literacy in graduate students through applied linguistics, psychology and neurosciences studies in education and creativity. She also holds a degree in Medicine, a degree in Visual Arts, and a master in Art and Design Education.
She successfully designed a student-centred mentorship approach to help Visual Arts and Design graduate students develop their identities as researchers and writers by bringing them back to their pre-existing creative identity. The objective is to provide them with the necessary tools to conduct their research projects. Vicky’s results suggest that this educative intervention has positively impacted students’ writing and epistemological beliefs.
Throughout her studies, Vicky has been thesis advisor, facilitator, member of the jury of other graduate students, and reviewer for several journals such as Frontiers in Education, ICCA 2024, Heliyon, and Leonardo. Her unprecedented ability to learn and propose innovative ways to support students combined with her academic excellence have allowed her to deliver courses to a wide variety of audiences, from 5-year old children (Children's Workshop of Plastic Arts) to graduate, and postgraduate students including artists, designers, philosophers, nurses, biologists, psychologists, among others. She also has organized postgraduate student’s academic meetings and enjoys delivering conferences and workshops. Currently she is and independent researcher, and she is conducting several painting projects. She is autor and co-author in articles published in Heliyon and Leonardo journals, respectively.
