Åsa Johannesson is an artist working across photography, installation, and writing. Her practice concerns the relationship between queerness and photographic practice. Åsa makes work in collaboration with the London LGBTQ+ community, often in studio location using a large format camera.  She has exhibited internationally since 2006, with solo exhibitions at Centrum for Fotografi (SWE), Dyson Gallery (UK), Landskrona Foto, Landskrona (SWE), MOCA London (UK), and Gothenburg Biennale Extended (SWE). With her writing Åsa intersects theoretical concepts from feminist and queer theory, new materialism with the logic of studio practice. Her research monograph Queer Methodology for Photography was published by Routledge in 2024 and her prose poetry collection And I wanted to see it: my queerness in the best light is forthcoming. Åsa has a PhD from the Royal College of Art in London (2020) and is a Senior Lecturer in Photography at the University of Brighton (UK).
