First-generation student who recently completed his doctoral dissertation on the work of Chilean media artist Juan Downey (1940-1993). The main objective of this most recent body of research is to understand Downey's work as an aesthetics of energy: a exploration of how specific energies can be used as media in the making of art, and the extent to which they have been positioned as resources in the struggles of modernity, coloniality/decoloniality, and the geopolitics of the Cold War. My work operates at the intersection of contemporary art history, the study of environmental media, and the energy humanities.
