Pat Badani is a media artist, writer, and researcher whose works promote ecological balance and sustainable human-world relations. Badani often uses 'food' to create artistic arguments that blend aesthetics and criticism, drawing connections between theories related to art as object, as medium, and art as critique of political and technological networks. Her artworks have been showcased in international museums, art centers, and specialized Art/Science/Technology festivals and symposia. She has received over 20 awards and commissions including a one-year media arts research-creation grant from the Canada Council for the Arts; support from the Robert Heinecken Trust Fund; a DCASE award; and a MacDowell National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. In 2011 her work was selected and registered on Creative Capital’s artists to watch list “On Our Radar.” Badani has been nominated for two merit awards in the USA; in 2010 she was nominated for an Art Matters Fellowship and in 2018 she was nominated for an AWAW award recognizing women of vision. In 2020 her work was recognized by the Electronic Literature Lab for Advanced Inquiry into Born Digital Media alongside other international e-lit women pioneer and visionaries. Badani has participated in conferences with her essays and talks in over 15 countries. Essays and reviews examining her works have been published in three languages in international solo and group exhibition catalogues, in thematic anthologies, and in journals.
