Veronica Hicks (she/they) identifies as a gamer-artist-educator with disabilities. As an inner city K-12 educator, she taught visual arts to students with varying abilities. Hicks’ educational research involves STEAM education, identity representation in comics, and cripping augmented reality mobile games in urban spaces. In 2020, She was awarded the California Art Education Association Special Needs Art Educator of the Year. In 2021, Hicks was awarded the National Art Education Association’s Special Needs Art Educator of the Year. Hicks was named a Global Ambassador for Divas with Disabilities. Her studio practice traces her intersectional identities through contemporary craft.
