Dave Wilson is Senior Lecturer in Music and Jazz Performance Programme Director at Te Herenga Waka–Victoria University of Wellington (Aotearoa New Zealand). His work integrates ethnographic research, performance, and composition and has been supported by the ACLS, American Councils for International Education, and the Aaron Copland Fund for Music. He is co-author of the music appreciation textbook Gateways to Understanding Music (Routledge) and his publications include articles in Commoning Ethnography, Ethnomusicology, Popular Music, Leonardo Music Journal, and Music & Politics. As a composer and performer on saxophone and other wind instruments, his recordings include the collaborative albums SLANT (2019) and In Passing (2017). He was a member of the Jazz Advisory Panel for the Wellington Jazz Festival from 2018 to 2021.
