Andrew (Andy) Pepper is an artist working with holography, projected light and installation.  He has exhibited his work in solo and group shows internationally and is a senior lecturer in fine art at Nottingham Trent University, UK, where he teaches into undergraduate and postgraduate fine art courses.

Andy founded and published the first global catalogue for creative holography, while teaching at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne, Germany and organised the International Symposium on Art in Holography, which took place at the University of Nottingham, UK.

He has written extensively on the subject of creative holography for art and science journals including Leonardo, SPIE, the Encyclopaedia of Modern Optics and Art Monthly.

Apart from his own work in the visual arts, he has been director of the Shearwater Foundation Holography Programme and the International Holography Fund, both organisations having been set up to help finance international projects which supported creative holography.

As a Fulbright and Lionel Robbins Memorial Scholar he has researched extensively into the critical, cultural, educational and practical aspects of holography.

His Ph.D. was the first to be awarded by the department of fine art at the University of Reading, UK,  and was one of the early examples of a practice-based doctorate where holograms were accepted as the critical ‘thesis’ for his submission.  He has subsequently been an external examiner for many key PhDs in the field.
