Melbourne,
Australia
Focus area: Sound, Acoustics

Anton Hasell is a professional artist whose studio research and experimental practice underpins his commissioned interactive and playful public-space artwork. He has taught in tertiary art schools and is an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University.
Best known for the co-creation of the Federation Bells Carillon in Melbourne (www.federationbells.com.au), Anton recently completed the invention, casting and tuning of a musical set of ‘difference tone’ bells for the visionary Longnow Foundation’s 10,000 Year Clock project in Texas (www.longnow.org).
His practice as an artist explores sound forms and images that have resonance in a particular landscape’s unique archetypal cadence and ambient pulse. The use of sophisticated digital design tools and traditional craft technologies in combination opens up new creative possibilities in the arts/craft/design research field, and makes possible productive collaborations between artists and scientists in search of solutions to global challenges that the planet faces.
