Xiaofeng Fang
Professorat Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua UniversityFang Xiaofeng has rich experience of design practice and he has been involved in many different kinds of architecture projects, especially those about the protection and innovation of the historical and cultural relics, take for example, he is the chief designer of Lei Fung Pagoda in Hangzhou. In terms of the exploration of the architecture theory, he has always been trying to explain the architectural phenomena in the macro-history view no matter he is dealing with an old building or contemporary one. For him, the architecture history is not only the study of the evolution of the architecture but also reflects humanity at certain period of time. In Thoughts on Architecture published on 2007, he used the methods mentioned before to analyze contemporary Chinese architectural phenomena. In recent years, Fang Xiaofeng starts to pay attention to the theoretical investigation of design ethics with Zhuangshi as platform, organizing many national academic activities, discussing current Chinese design ethics. He has published many theses on the important design journals. In 2010, his book Great Chinese Gardens was published in six languages including English, French, German, Russian, Chinese characters in the complex form and simplified Chinese character, attracting wild attention in the Frankfurt Book Fair.Fang Xiaofeng is also a design curator. In 2008, he organized the exhibition entitled “Chinese Path to Modern Design: New China’s Design Documents Show” in Tsinghua University. In 2011, he was a member of the curatorial board of BIDT(Beijing International Design Triennial) and he was the co-curator of the sub-theme exhibition “Reason Design Emotion” of the BIDT.Fang Xiaofeng won 2007 “Young Scholar of Distinction” award from Tsinghua University. In 2011, the Zhuangshi under the leadership of Fang Xiaofeng, won “Government publication Award Nomination for Journal”, as the only one in art journal.
