Judith Dancoff, Los Angeles, CA. Writer. Dancoff’s work is grounded in a strong urge to connect personal drama to large historical events, probably because of the death of her father who was involved in the creation of the atomic bomb. Her fiction and essays have appeared in Creative Nonfiction, Tiferet Journal, Alaska Quarterly, Other Voices, Southern Humanities Review, and other journals. Her novella Women Bathing, about a young 19th century painter in Paris who becomes involved in the Dreyfus Affair, was recently published in Southern Humanities Review and in 2016 she completed her debut novel Chloe and Louise, about a 17th century still life painter who becomes involved in the Wars of Religion, the contemporary curator who investigates one of her paintings, and the bi-polar girl obsessed with art who helps her. Dancoff has received awards from both Tiferet and Southern Humanities Review for best short story of the year. She was short-listed for a Writing Fellowship from the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown and named Finalist-Special Mention for a Heekin Novel-in-Progress Award. She has attended residences at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Hedgebrook.
