Giovanna Costantini holds a Ph.D. in the History of Art from the University of Michigan.  A National Endowment for the Humanities award recipient, her academic appointments have included professorships at the State University of New York and The University of Michigan, with Visiting Scholar residencies at the American Academy in Rome.  Presentations at such institutions as the University of Copenhagen, The National Gallery of London and the University of Leiden address an array of subjects in modern and contemporary art.  As a member of the Leonardo Reviews Panel, her interdisciplinary reviews and articles appear regularly in affiliate publications. A book in progress traces the engagement of key Parisian artists in defense of a democratic society under threat of polarization, foreign invasion and civil unrest during France's Third Republic.
