Abstract: This research focuses on the use of social media as a tool for women in Iran to express themselves, through digital performance, in ways that are not physically possible in public. The paper analyzes and contextualizes the current intersection of gender and technology in Iran through a contemporary analysis of cyberfeminism and gender-based segregation. As an artwork, the project examines the ways in which social media reflects a viewer’s actions back at them. Through the development of an interactive and responsive installation, Peepshow 2.0 invites viewers to engage in the creation of a feedback loop that reflects and mirrors theirparticipation. By highlighting the role of digital platforms in facilitating self-expression and resistance, the project underscores the transformative potential of technology in challenging societal norms and empowering marginalized voices. The development of this paper and interactive artwork serves as a means for me, an Iranian in diaspora, to explore and communicate the complex situation of social freedom for women in Iran. By delving into the intersection of digital performance and social media, I aim to explore the nuanced ways women navigate and resist gender-based restrictions. This project fosters a deeper understanding of the resilience and creativity of Iranian women. Through this work, I hope to contribute to the ongoing discourse on gender, technology, and social change.
