Ana Rewakowicz (www.rewana.com) is an interdisciplinary artist and researcher born in Poland of Ukrainian origin, currently based in Montreal. She studied at Ontario College of Art and Design University (Toronto) and Concordia University (Montreal), and in 2021 received her PhD in art and science at École Polytechnique in Paris. Known for her stimulating, interactive, inflatable works that question our relationship with the environment, she is concerned with building platforms of intra-actions and exchange through participation. Currently her art engages in growing environmental complexities with a particular focus on water. For five years she worked collaboratively with scientists Camille Duprat and Jean-Marc Chomaz at École Polytechnique on the Mist Collector project that addresses the issue of diminishing sources of fresh water in the world and looks at alternative methods of obtaining water from fog.
Rewakowicz has works in permanent collections of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome, Italy (MACRO), Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Musée de Joliette, and has exhibited in Canada and around the world, including Copernicus Science Museum (Warsaw, Poland), Bienal del Fin del Mondo, (Mar Del Plata, Argentina), ISEA (Dubai, UAE), Foundation Stiftelsen 3,14 (Bergen, Norway), Anchorage Museum (Alaska, USA), Pori Art Museum (Finland) and La Maison Europénne de la Photographie (Paris, France). She is the recipient of many awards and grants, including a Long Term Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, awarded only twice in a lifetime. Her artworks have been reviewed in journals, films and books, most recently in Bubbletecture published by Phaidon (2019). Her nomadic artwork SleepingBagDress is featured in Microtopia (2013) - a documentary film by Swedish director Jesper Wachtmeister about micro dwellings, downsizing and living off the grid, and her Porous Sail Prototype is presented in the Man Ray et les équations shakespeariennes (2019) film by French director Quentin Lazzarotto. Her chapter entitled Encounters: Art, Science, Clouds and Water is included in the Transmedia Change: Pedagogy and Practice of Socially-Concerned Transmedia Stories book, edited by Kevin Moloney and published by Routledge (2022).
