Leno Mascia was born in Italy where he attended both primary and high schools and graduated in the UK, taking a first degree in Applied Chemistry and then a PhD, receiving later the Doctor of Science award. He is now retired, having worked as a research scientist first at I.C.I. and then at Raychem Corporate Technology, holding also academic posts at Aston University and at Loughborough University, with an intermediate leave of absence in North Africa to join a consortium of American Universities. He has acted as Editor-Europe for the journal Advances in Polymer Technology for nearly 20 years.

In his retirement, while still involved in his main area of research, he has developed an interest in the science and mathematics concepts in the works of art of Leonardo da Vinci.
