Nélida Pohl is a science communicator specialized in the biological sciences. She has a Biology undergraduate degree and a masters in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (both from University of Chile), a PhD in Biology from the University of California, Irvine, and a masters in Science Communication from Imperial College, London.
She is the Director of Communications at the Institute of Ecology and Biodiversity (www.ieb-chile.cl), and President of ACHIPEC, the Chilean Association of Science Journalists and Communication Professionals. Nélida also works as an independent consultant and professor of science communication. She co-founded and coordinates the Graduate Diploma in Science Communication at University of Chile. Her main interests are: raising awareness about the importance of biodiversity, training new science communicators, expanding the reach of science to new audiences, and encouraging multiple interactions between science and art. She has written articles, scripts, web contents, and book chapters, edited books and blogs, photographed expeditions, recorded and produced radio pieces and podcasts, and developed and fundraised science communication projects in a variety of formats and platforms.
