Maja Petric is an artist creating immersive installations and dynamic sculptures that evoke the sublime in nature. Eliciting nature allows her to engage people with their innate connection with the environment and other fellow humans to the degree that one can recognize unity with something greater than oneself in a vast and interconnected universe.

She combines light, sound, and cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, computer vision, and robotics to expand the multi-sensory apparatus through which art can be experienced. Her approach is innovation-driven, scientific, and technical. Fusing these disciplines with art lets her impact people’s experiences in a way that would not be possible otherwise. She explores how science and technology in the hands of an artist can become vehicles for reaching new emotional terrains that could not be accessible otherwise.

Maja has exhibited internationally, from New York to Hong Kong, London to Seattle, Madrid to Sao Paulo, and her artwork has been included in major exhibitions at Farol Santander, MadArt Studio, Google Permanent Art Collection, Amazon HQ Gallery, Wonderspaces, Winston Wächter Fine Art Gallery, etc.

She has conceived and produced immersive art environments for Microsoft, interactive art installations for Hong Kong Landmark, permanent light art installations for Google, Henry Art Gallery, along with others. Her latest commissions include a tour of the immersive installation We Are All Made Of Light across the US and a series of interactive installations that will take place in public parks, commercial, and private venues.

Maja is the recipient of multiple prizes, including the Lumen Prize for Art and Technology for the best interactive art, Microsoft Research Residency Award, Richard Kelly Light Art Award, Doctoral Fellowship from National Science Foundation, and a finalist for International Light Art Award, Arts Innovator Award, FastCo. Innovation by Design Awards, and others.

She has been teaching about light and art at the University of Washington, Complutense University of Madrid, Technical University of Madrid, and European Institute of Design. In 2016 she designed and directed the first-of-its-kind graduate program “Creative Lighting” at the European Institute of Design in Madrid, Spain.

Her research on the creative use of light is being prepared for publishing in a book - History of Light in Art.

Maja speaks worldwide on various aspects of innovation through the artistic use of experiential technologies, particularly lighting. She recently spoke on AI-driven Light in Art at IBM HQ in London, EXPO Lighting in Mexico City, Microsoft Research in Redmond, and Philips in Eindhoven.

Her work has been featured in a wide range of international publications including The New York Times, BBC, Fast Company, FRAME magazine, The Seattle Times, Deutsche Welle, etc.

She received a Ph.D. from the University of Washington and a Master's from New York University on transforming the poetic experience of space through the experimental use of technology.
