Maria Mire (Maputo, 1979). Lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. Her artistic and research work, since 2001, focuses mainly on the perception of moving image. Has a PhD in Art and Design by the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto in 2016, with the thesis "Phantasmagorias: the moving image in the field of contemporary artistic practice". She is currently teacher and co-director of the Cinema/Moving Image Department of Ar.Co – Centro de Arte & Comunicação Visual, in Lisbon. Has taught, between 2010 and 2018, in the Multimedia Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto, and between 2011 and 2015 in the Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia Course at the Universidade Lusófona do Porto. She has been part of several collaborative artistic projects, including Coletivo Embankment [created in 2005, with Aida Castro and Jonathan Saldanha]; Plataforma Ma [created in 2009, with Catarina Marto and Aida Castro]; or Patê Filmes [created in 2006, with Luísa Homem and Pedro Pinho]. These collaborations resulted in exhibitions such as "Embankment #9 / Ao Monte" (Porto, Maus Hábitos, 2016) and "Embankment #8 / Curators' Lab: Documentação e Discurso" (Guimarães 2012 - European Capital of Culture), as well as her involvement as a curator in projects like "Antena 4: Embankment #7" (Serralves, 2010), "TÉLÉTHÈQUE: Encontros Videográficos" (Institut Français du Portugal, 2010). She is currently developing a collaborative project within the scope of her artistic duo with Aida Castro. She directed the film “Parto sem dor”, an imagined conversation with Cesina Bermudes, that was part of the official selection of INDIELISBOA 2020, "Festival Caminhos do Cinema Português” (Selection "Outros Olhares 2020”) and PORTO FEMME – International Film Festival, where she received the Prize for Best Documentary of the National Competition.
