Doris grew up in New York City after arriving there at age five from Romania. In high school, she began to publish poetry and essays in Seventeen Magazine. After graduation from Yale, she pursued her dual interests in stories and brain science by becoming a psychiatrist. Doris’s short fiction has won many honors, including the 2016 Portland Review Spring Fiction Award, the Crab Orchard Review’s Jack Dyer Prize, and nomination for a Pushcart. Her book, American Dreaming and Other Stories, won the Novello Literary Award and other publishing honors. She has been a Fellow at VCCA and Hambidge, and is the recipient of a N.C. Arts Council Residency Grant in Literature to Vermont Studio Center, a Durham Arts Council Emerging Artist Grant, and fiction scholarships to the Sewanee and Wesleyan Writers’ Conferences. She recently completed a novel manuscript. Her nonfiction includes her book Mental Health Issues and the University Student  and essays including a New York Times Modern Love column. She recently moved to Boston, where she works part-time as a psychiatrist at Harvard University and is working on a memoir.
