Matthew Lovett is Associate Professor in Music Innovation, and leads the Music and Sound department at University of Gloucestershire.
His work explores the common ground between creative processes in music and technology, economics and philosophical theory.
His writing examines musical creativity in the context of new materialism, speculative realism and deep ecology, along with music commerce in relation to blockchain and web3 architectures, intellectual property, governance systems and political ecology.
As a practising musician, he is a BAFTA award winner, and his work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale and broadcast on BBC Radio 3. His practice-based exploration of posthuman creativity led to a series of commissioned environmental improvisation projects in locations across South Wales, including the Pembrokeshire National Park and cave systems and forestry sites in the Black Mountains. He has played at a range of international and UK-based music and arts festivals, and his creative practice continues to inform his approach to research.
