I studied Fine Art at Edinburgh University and the Royal College of Art.  My light sculpture was included in Northern Lights,  a group exhibition at the Fruitmarket Gallery in 1997, which had, as its centre piece, an installation by James Turrell.
More recent work is about the movement of light across the sky and landscape, with one 16mm film distributed internationally by LUX in 2007. I was awarded an Artist International Development  Award by Arts Council England in 2017 to make a short film of the terrain in North Western Russia where Mikhail Prishvin’s traveled and wrote about in 1907, and commission a translation of the author’s descriptions of it in Za vol’shebnym kolobko. The journal Leonardo published  "Color perception and the Art of James Turrell" in August 2000. The research for this paper extended to the question of colour perception being influenced by language and culture. In 2001 I co-authored a research proposal titled Sensations and Concepts with the psychologist Jules Davidoff for the Wellcome Trust's Sicart Awards, which was short-listed. I was then invited to Namibia to observe Davidoff's ESRC funded field-work for 2 weeks in November of that year, research that involved testing colour naming and perception of the Himba.
