I am an interdisciplinary historian of innovation; engineering studies; and the emerging nexus of science, engineering, art, and design. I have written about the history and current practice of technoloigists' collaboration with artists, including the Center for Advanced Visual Studies, Experiments in Art and Technology, and current SEAD networks. I teach in Virginia Tech's Department of Science, Technology, and Society. I am a senior fellow in Virginia Tech's Institute for Creativity, Arts, and Technology (ICAT). I also have affiliated appointments in the departments of History and Engineering Education. I received my BS in Materials Science and Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, my PhD in History from Princeton University, and my postdoctoral training as an Andrew W. Mellon Fellow in the Modeling Interdisciplinary Inquiry Program at Washington University in St. Louis.
