Leonardo's 50th Anniversary Celebration at ISEA 2018

Registration is closed for this event
This event will take place at ISEA 2018, chaired by Marcus Neustetter. Details TBA.

ISEA International is pleased to announce that ISEA2018 will be held in Durban, South Africa.

INTERSECTIONS positions creative technological innovation as an activist engagement into public space and public practice with underlying critical questions of ownership, imposition and development. Creative collaboration between artists, artisans, designers, technologists, entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists and inventors will take place in a context where survival is the most basic instigator for solutions. In such a scenario, technological developments should follow and support these solutions. This symposium and festival will focus on accessible and alternative platforms that encourage partnerships across sectors and regions, highlighting the strength of industry, institutions and government to think about how we can improve our environments and find locally relevant approaches for everyday challenges.

ISEA International is a not for profit organisation constituted in the Netherlands. The main activity of ISEA International is the International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA), an annual gathering of the international art, science and technology community. The symposium includes an academic conference, exhibitions, performances and workshops. It is a nomadic event and is held in a different location every year.

About Leonardo/ISAST
50 Years of Celebrating the Community

Almost half a century ago, kinetic artist and astronautical pioneer Frank Malina set out to solve the needs of a community of artists and scientists working across disciplines by using the “new media” of the time: offset print publishing. As a groundbreaking, innovative venture, Leonardo represented a unique vision: to serve as an international channel of communication among artists, with emphasis on the writings of artists who use science and developing technologies in their work. The result was Leonardo, an academic journal for artists with the peer-review rigor of a scientific journal. For 50 years, Leonardo has been the definitive publication for artist-academics, and the field has gained momentum in recent years.

Leonardo's anniversary celebrations are made possible by our international partners and led by the 50th Anniversary Committee Chair Nina Czegledy.
