LASER Talks at Vienna: Externalities Within

Registration is closed for this event
Externalities Within Positions of Young Female Artists in the Context of a Medical University with Commentary by Experts from the Field of Arts/Choreography in Medicine LASER Vienna brings together four young female Vienna-based choreographers who have in common that they use the logic of their own physical presence to mediate four in/environmental conditions (writing, outer space, quantification, bacteria), transforming artistic into political as well as comic agency. The artists have been either in clinical employment with the Medical University of Vienna after studying Art&Science (Laura Stoll, Daniela Brill) or Choreography/Dance (Sara Lanner), or discussed their transdisciplinary choreographic  concepts within the context of the Medical University (Julia Müllner). All four works have been previously shown at performance houses and institutions, two of them under pandemic conditions. In an accompanying commentary, Patricia Olynyk and Suzy Willson will reflect on the four works with their expertise as artistic and choreographic educators in academic and clinical medicine.

Mother Tongue.  Sara Lanner graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts with a degree in Performance Arts. In her work, Sara connects thoughts on language and identity not only through spoken or written language but through the body's own organ of speech - the tongue. (1)

Gathering bacteria in my carrier bag. Julia Müllner graduated from the Danish National School of Performing Arts. Following Le Guin's feminist narrative, the sympoiesis of bacteria and fungi is the basis for Julia’s experimentation with fermentation’s transformation processes. (4)

Allotropy of Mine. Daniela Brill graduated from The University of Applied Arts with a degree in Art&Science. In her work, Daniela speculates about the composition of her body as being formed by the interiors of collapsing stars. (2)

Questionnaire Series. Laura Stoll graduated from The Medical Charite Berlin and the University of Applied Arts Vienna with a degree in Art&Science. Laura examines how medical questionnaires follow an unwritten dramaturgy between questioners and interviewees. (3)
