Moderated by: Natalia Marin & Alex Radu
EVENT INFO
When: 07/05/2025, 7pm
Where: /SAC @ Berthelot (5 General H. M.
Berthelot Street, Sector 1)
SPEAKERS BIOS
Speakers: Lyndsey Walsh (DE), Diana Drăghici (RO)
In this talk, artists Lyndsey Walsh and Diana
Drăghici will explore how personal encounters with illness reshape art and
notions of care. Lyndsey Walsh will have SELF-CARE as a starting point, a
project featuring a queer wearable device, as a chest binder, that allows its
wearer to house and care for a living BRCA1 cancer cell line, accompanying
media about the wearable device, and two videos, one of them exploring the
artists’ relationship with their mother and inherited genetic mutations. Diana
Drăghici will share how her artistic practice evolved after her own medical
experience, using art as a tool for transformation and resilience. Together,
they will reflect on art as a radical, intimate act of care for the body, self,
and others. The discussion will take place in English, and active, relaxed
participation from the audience is encouraged.
THE ART OF CARE is the third talk in the LASER
Talks Bucharest series, hosted by /SAC and moderated by Natalia Marin and Alex
Radu. The LASER (Leonardo Art Science Evening
Rendezvous) program is an international initiative of the Leonardo Network,
bringing together artists, scientists, engineers, and professionals from
various fields to discuss projects and ideas at the intersection of art and
science. These meetings take place in over 60 cities worldwide, promoting the
exchange of knowledge and collaboration between creative and scientific
disciplines.
Leonardo is the leading platform dedicated to
research and education, with a special focus on the intersection of science,
technology, and art. Founded as a global network in 1968, the Leonardo journal,
published by MIT Press, and the website www.leonardo.info have become reference
points for professionals, researchers, and artists, promoting groundbreaking
research and interdisciplinary collaborations.
