Claudia Westermann studied Architecture at the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, and the University of Tampere, Finland (Dipl. Ing. Architekt). She conducted additional postgraduate studies in the field of Media Fine Arts at the HfG (University for Art and Design) at the ZKM (Center for Art and Mediatechnology) in Karlsruhe (Postgr. Cert. Media Fine Arts). She is a licensed member of the Chamber of Architects Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Since 2003 Claudia Westermann is a part-time online PhD candidate with the Center of Advanced Inquiry in the Interactive Arts (CAiiA) at the Planetary Collegium based at Plymouth University in England. She conducts a transdisciplinary practice-based research in the field of Art (Architecture), Science and Technology. Her studio, the Laboratory for Experimental Research into Inhabitable Theories, is located in Vienna, Austria. Claudia Westermann currently is a faculty member (Univ. Ass./post doc) at the Vienna University of Technology, Department of Architecture.
Claudia Westermannís works have been exhibited and presented internationally including at the Venice Biennale for Architecture, the Moscow International Film Festival, ISEA Symposium for the Electronic Arts in Japan, the ZKM in Karlsruhe ñ Germany, the International Festival of Cinema and Technology in New York - USA, the Ciberart Symposium in Bilbao ñ Spain and the Consciousness Reframed Conference in Beijing ñ China. She regularly contributes to conferences and has been published internationally. Claudia Westermann received several awards and grants including from the ZKM and the European Science Foundation.
