Monika Weiss is a Polish-American transdisciplinary artist whose practice explores the body as cultural and physical signifier, in the context of historical and individual memory. Weiss works in projected video, performance, sound composition, drawing, and sculpture, often combining these elements into large-scale public installations. In the words of British art critic Guy Brett, "Weiss creates an alternative experience of space and time, which is not end-driven but steady and enduring, establishing and deepening a human presence. Her work is a remarkable, individual counterpoint between technological media (video projection) and the ancient activity of drawing. Sound is also an important element, meticulously composed by the artist, which lifts the silent filmed actions into another emotional register."

Weiss' works have been exhibited both in the United States and internationally. Weiss' most recent solo exhibitions include Sustenazo at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw (2010). In 2005, Lehman College Art Gallery, CUNY organized and published a comprehensive survey of the artist's work to date, Five Rivers, which was reviewed in The New York Times. Other recent exhibitions include Opening at Muzeum Montanelli, Prague (2010); Frauen bei Olympia at Frauenmuseum, Bonn (2009); POZA: On the Polishness of Polish Contemporary Art at Real Art Ways, Hartford (2008); Forms of Classification: Alternative Knowledge and Contemporary Art at Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation CIFO, Miami (2007); Moment by Moment: Meditations of the Hand at North Dakota Museum of Art, Grand Forks (2006); and On the Absence of Camps at Kunsthaus Dresden (2006). A significant part of the artist's work consists of public projects, which are site-specific, interactive, and process-oriented environments. In 2006, Weiss was commissioned to create Drawing Lethe at the World Financial Center, a project that was curated by The Drawing Center, New York.

Publications about the artist's work include Drawing Now: Between the Lines of Contemporary Art, I.B. Tauris, London (2007), and Monika Weiss: Five Rivers, Lehman College Art Gallery, CUNY (2007). Weiss' own writing has been published in such books and journals as New Realities: Being Syncretic, Springer Wien/New York (2009) and Technoetic Arts: A Journal of Speculative Research, Intellect Ltd, London (2006). Upcoming publications include Beyond Darwin: The co-evolutionary path of art, technology and consciousness, Sala Parapallo Centro Cultural, Valencia (2011). In 2009, Weiss was awarded the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in the interdisciplinary category. Represented by Galerie Samuel Lallouz, Montreal, and Remy Toledo Projects, New York, Monika Weiss' work is featured in public collections such as Albertina Museum (Vienna) and Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (Miami). Weiss is currently co-editor of the contemporary drawing magazine "Tracey," published by Laughborough University, UK.
