Joel Slayton is an artist,
writer and theoretician. He is currently Professor of Digital Media
Art at San Jose State University, where he serves as Director of the
CADRE Institute, an interdisciplinary academic research center. Mr.
Slayton is the Executive Editor of SWITCH, the CADRE Institute
on-line journal of critical and theoretical discourse. He is also
President of C5, a research corporation specializing in theoretical
models, analysis and tactical implementations of information
technology. C5 is both a corporation and artwork. Slayton was an
original member of the Visible Language Workshop at MIT; his media
installations, performances and print works featured in over 100
exhibitions internationally and in more than 50 publications. Slayton
has worked with many Silicon Valley computer corporations including
Silicon Graphics, Apple Computer and the Nasa Ames Research Center.
He was selected for participation in the PAIR program at the Xerox
Palo Alto Research Center (Xerox PARC) and is an NEA project grant
recipient. He is chair of the Leonardo Book Series.
