Manthos Santorineos was born in Athens in 1954. He studied Painting
at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in
Paris and Film and Audiovisual Media at the Department of Mass Media
/ Multi Media of the University of Paris 8. At the same University he
wrote his Maitrise (Masters) dissertation on the position of the
artist in society in relation to technological evolution, 1975-1983.
He is currently presenting his doctorate thesis on aesthetics,
sciences and technologies of Art, at the Department Art and
Technology of the Image, University of Paris 8 (2002-2005).
Since 1984, Santorineos has been active in promoting art and
technology, having established the Department of Art and Technology
at the Ileana Tounda Centre of Contemporary Art, and Eikona, a Centre
for Audiovisual Research and Applications. In 1991, together with
Dodo Santorineos, he founded FOURNOS Center for Art and New
Technologies and in 1999 brought forth the Medi@terra Festival of
International Art and Technology (www.mediaterra.org).
In the year 2000 Santorineos was elected Lecturer in the Multimedia
Department of the Athens School of Fine Arts, where he is responsible
for the multimedia/hypermedia studio in the pre-graduate course and
hybrid forms of art in the postgraduate course in digital arts.
In 2003 he established the Fournos Lab at Fournos, a research
laboratory for digital art and society.
Santorineos has directed films and television programs (1985-1995).
His works belong to the fields of video art, interactive
installations and net-based projects and have been shown at festivals
and museums in Greece and abroad (Argos, Festival, Roma Europa,
Locarno Festival, Videofest, Festival Interferences, VideoBrasil,
etc.).
