Cynthia Beth Rubin is a digital artist working in 2D still imagery,
inter-activity, animated images, and 3D imaging. Trained as a
painter, her work evokes cultural memories through complex layers of
color and texture. She works independently and in collaboration.
Recent collaborators include the composer Bob Gluck, computer science
researchers Holly Rushmeier and Bing Wang, the virtual reality
researcher Daniel Keefe, and the NGO Green Senegal.
Rubin's work has been exhibited screened widely in such diverse
venues as the Jewish Museum in Prague, the Pandamonium Festival at
the ICA in London, the Lavall Gallery in Novosibirsk, the DeLeon
White Gallery in Toronto, and numerous editions of international
conferences such as ISEA, ArCade and SIGGRAPH. Images of her works
are published in numerous books and journals, such as Art in the
Digital Age by Bruce Wands, The Computer in the Visual Arts, by Anne
Morgan Spalter, and Painting the Digital River, by James Faure
Walker. Winner of the first award in New Media from the Connecticut
Commission on the Arts, other awards and artist residencies include
the New England Foundation for the Arts, Videochroniques in
Marseilles, and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture.
Rubin's studio is in New Haven, Connecticut. She teaches part-time
at the Rhode Island School of Design, and elsewhere in the region.
