Gordon Monro is an Australian generative artist. His current interest
is in writing computer programs that generate both sound and images for
multimedia artworks. He also has a long-standing interest in computer
music. His works often have a connection with scientific concepts.
Gordon's works have been performed in Europe, Asia, the Americas,
Australia and New Zealand, and broadcast nationally In Australia. His
tape piece "Dry Rivers" was awarded an honourable mention in the 1996
Prix Ars Electronica; his piece "The Voice of the Phoenix (2") for bass
flute and tape was joint prize-winner at the First Australian Flute
Composition Competition held in Brisbane in 1999 and was selected as an
ISCM recommended work for the ISCM World Music Days in Romania in 1999.
His video "Dissonant Particles" was awarded a Mención Especial in the
fifth Festival Internacional de la Imagen in Colombia in 2006 and was
selected for the inaugural Visual Music Marathon in Boston in 2007.
Gordon holds a PhD in mathematics and was a Mathematics faculty member
of the University of Sydney for many years. Recently he completed a
Master of Music at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is now
undertaking a PhD in the Faculty of Art and Design, Monash University.
