Curtis E.A. Karnow is a partner with the international law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, in its San Francisco offices. Raised in Vietnam, France, North Africa and Hong Kong, Mr. Karnow is a graduate of Harvard College and the University of Pennsylvania law school where he was an editor of the Law Review. He is the author of four plays, all of which have been produced, and a series of novels and poems which are not likely to see the light of day.

A former federal prosecutor and currently judge pro tem for various courts in the San Francisco area, Mr. Karnow specializes in intellectual property litigation, high tech and computer law. He advises on electronic commerce including advertising; computer security and encryption; privacy and data collection policies; web site and other software licensing agreements; web hosting agreements; and copyright and trademark matters. He is the author of numerous papers in the fields of computer and Internet and computer law, intellectual property, litigation, and arbitration, including his book Future Codes: Essays In Advanced Computer Technology & The Law (Artech House: 1997). A member of the Sonnenschein Year 2000 Task Force, Mr. Karnow has represented clients in a variety of Y2k issues addressing strategic planning, source code access, and document policies, warranties and related contract matters. He has also utilized his experience in computer technology and the law in a variety of computer crime matters, and counseled clients on computer security issues.
